I too am having problems with the lace section. What was your breakthrough? It seems like too few stitches in the center section -- does the pattern shift to the left after the center stitches?
Use stitch markers and count stitches frequently. The pattern does shift on the 7th, 15th, and 23rd row. If I remember correctly it shifts to the right on the RS. I had a couple of issues where I had forgotten to do the kfb on some and that threw the count off. By the second lace section if went much more smoothly. Good luck!
